Promoting the Sport of Sailing
in the Metro Detroit Community

The Grayhaven Sail Club of Detroit's Board of Governors and members welcome you to our website and the 2011 sailing season. We are an integrated group of Metro Detroit sailors, organized in 1992, who have cruised and raced many nautical miles together ever since.  Challenge The Wind (CTW), our sail training program for youth, began in 1995.

Our bylaws state that GSCD's purpose is to "foster the sport of sailing in the Detroit Metropolitan community through the donation and coordination of the human and financial resources required for the education and training of underprivileged youth who want to learn how to sail. We endeavor to join together all persons currently engaged in sailing and introduce new, diverse people to sailing and to encourage their participation in sailing activities. GSCD is committed to the advancement of safety at sea, knowledge of seamanship and preservation of the environment."

We welcome applications for membership from any adult (18 years and older) who has a strong desire to sail and to promote the purpose of the Club. For more information on membership, please click here to send email.

2012 Challenge the Wind Youth Sailing Program

Challenge the Wind provides high school age Metro Detroit boys and girls the opportunity to learn the sport of sailing. The program has been in existence for over ten years, operating under the guidance of the Grayhaven Sail Club of Detroit. In March, 2004 Challenge The Wind (CTW) officially became a 501(c)(3) Corporation.

We believe that sailing builds self reliance and team unity and, as an option to traditional sports, provides an alternative for many of our youth. As members of a community on an International Border, we want our students to have the chance to appreciate our great waterways. So, along with sailing skills, participants learn the value of water safety, preservation of our marine environment and the importance of security of our borders.

2012 dates will be announced shortly.

For information on how to enroll in the CTW program, send an email to: ChallengetheWind@gmail.com

General Community funding is needed to help us bring this unique opportunity
to boys and girls in our community. Your generous gift will last a life time, for you will assist in opening a door and raising a level of achievement and awareness. CTW is privileged to undertake the task of teaching and mentoring our future citizen/sailors, and we ask your support for this outstanding Program.
